POSITION SUMMARY: Under general direction, conducts daily operation and programming within the West Central Juvenile Detention Facility. Adheres to applicable federal and state laws, ensures compliance with regulations set forth by the American Correctional Association and the Department of Youth Services standards. Maintains security of the facility and grounds while ensuring safety of youth. Directs youth through daily scheduled activities confirming that proper care is provided to include but not limited to: medical needs, hygiene items and food. Conducts detention intakes and ensures required information is obtained from youth. Processes required assessments and screenings while ensuring youth are familiar with and aware of all requirements and procedures while detained. Provides assistance and guidance to youth through the detainment process and gives general guidance during difficult or unusual situations.
QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of a High School Diploma and/or equivalent with training and/or any combination of training and work experience that indicates possession of the required skills, knowledge and abilities to perform essential and non-essential job functions. This position involves complex tasks, varied and non-varied tasks with application of numerous laws, regulations, standards and procedures. Requires a high degree of discretionary decision-making and sound exercise of judgment, observation, communication and analytical skills.
DUTIES: Operates daily programming within a secure Juvenile Detention Facilities. Ensures adherence to applicable laws and regulations, policies and procedures. Directs and organizes youth needs. Maintains a working knowledge of facility training needs and service programs. Supervises youth and programs within a secure environment. Prepares and submits records and reports. Assesses the needs of incarcerated youth and makes referral as needed. Provides assistance and general direction to youth when dealing with difficult life situations. Observes youth and provides evaluation and documentation of behavior. Intervenes during emotional, behavioral, medical and/or physical incidents. Communicates with staff pertaining to youth behavior and/or safety and security issues. Testifies in court pertaining to youth records and activities while detained. Meets all job safety requirements and standards that pertain to essential functions. Ensures compliance with all accreditation guidelines through ACA.
