Highway Bridge Worker 1
POSITION SUMMARY
Employee performs unskilled and semi-skilled tasks and operates light to medium equipment in the construction, repair, and maintenance of county roadways and bridge systems. Employee works as a member of a designated work crew, or alone as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent, valid Ohio driver’s license, ability to use computers and knowledge of office practices and procedures, 1 year of working experience in construction or related work, and/or equivalent combination of training and/or related work experience. Must hold and maintain at all times a valid Class A State of Ohio Commercial Driver’s License. Must pass a medical exam to meet physical qualifications set forth in 49 CFR 391.41, Subpart E, for holding a valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver’s License, including passing pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
DUTIES
Includes but is not limited to: moving material and equipment utilizing light and medium duty trucks, snow and ice removal operations on public roadways, forming, placing and finishing of concrete, fabrication of reinforcing steel cages, patching of cracks and holes in roadway, landscaping activities, installing drainage pipes of various types and materials, guardrail installation, service and maintenance of equipment, traffic control activities, completing daily reports and logs, and dealing well with people in highly stressful situations. Subject to emergency call out and must report in a timely manner.
Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to extreme temperatures and weather conditions, noise, dirt, grease, vibrations, electrical, and mechanical hazards, dust and chemicals. The employee may be subject to eyestrain when plowing snow. Must possess and maintain the physical ability to perform work assignments which may require prolonged and frequent walking, climbing, balancing, pushing and pulling, lifting, carrying, shoveling, hammering, tamping, bending, stooping, crouching and sitting activities using all major muscle groups. Minimum lifting capability is 30 lbs. on a frequent basis, and 77 lbs. on an occasional basis (Reference Nova Care Fit for Duty Testing). Neck mobility is necessary when operating a dump truck or snowplow. Manual dexterity, normal vision, including color and depth perception, and hearing acuity are required to operate tools and equipment due to working in close proximity to heavy equipment and moving traffic. Employee must be able to work steadily, accurately and at various heights to complete work assignments.
