Job & Family Services - Troy, OH - Full Time

CLASSIFICATION PURPOSE
The purpose of the Social Services Supervisor is to directly supervise staff within their unit. The supervisor oversees the operations of the programs and attends meetings.

JOB DUTIES
Provides direct supervision of division program unit of Intake, Ongoing or Foster/Adoption, determines need for new staff members, interviews applicants, disciplines subordinates, reviews, approves, or denies employee leave requests, completes performance evaluations, assigns and reviews work of subordinates. [45%]
Oversees the operation of the program division unit assigned. [30%]
Attends meetings and serves on advisory committees. [10%]
Communicates with outside agencies. [10%]
Conducts meetings within their unit. [5%]

MAJOR WORKER CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge of computer operations, office practices and procedures, federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations, program planning, development and implementation, and administrative practices
Skills in typing, word processing, oral communication, writing, interviewing, advising, and supervising
Ability in reasoning, numerical, verbal, clerical, interpersonal, and physical

MINIMUM CLASS QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT
Bachelors Degree in Social Work or Social Services related field
Minimum 2 years’ experience in the program and/or 3 years’ experience as a supervisor

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervise and manage Social Service staff. Includes setting work duties, tracking and approving employee leave time. Train staff as needed. Counsel and discipline staff as required. Conduct annual employee reviews.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS
The supervisor has substantial responsibility for the physical safety of children who are suspected of being either abused or neglected.  These children are incapable of protecting themselves from this type of treatment.  Serious mistakes in terms of failing to remove from homes could conceivably cause death or permanent disability.  The position possesses considerable responsibility for the psychological safety of children who are suspected of being either abused or neglected.  These children cannot do little to prevent harm from occurring.  Failure to promptly remove an endangered child would potentially cause extreme psychological distress or emotional problems requiring long-term treatment and/or hospitalization of a short duration.  Additionally, the position involves a very limited probability of any injury.  The incumbent may occasionally interact with angry or hostile clients.
